September 2009
September 30, 2009 Jeremy had a busy day today. He had two visitors Bill Omlid and Jim Mandel. He was really happy to see both of them and thought that it was really nice that they came to visit! He had OT and PT today. He also made it outside and over to the family appartments with Adele. We have the countdown for Laurie to arrive... just two more nights. Jeremy said he spent 9 hours in the chair today; he is getting stronger every day!
September 29, 2009 Today Jeremy made it another good day~ with his positive attitude and determination. He was able to go outside for a while and he saw some vans that were converted. He also made it over to the family appartments. Jeremy and Adele signed up for October's extracurricular activities including pet therapy, going out for dinner couple of nights and SPA DAY (I am more excited about this than he is)! I was on Skype with him and he picked up his cup and took a sip! I was so surprised.... but I shouldn't be... Jeremy, we know you are going to come a long way baby. Keep up the great work... we love you!
September 28, 2009 Jeremy's surgery got rescheduled for next week.
He is really bummed.... He was looking forward to putting it behind him and starting to recover. So, another week of pain and another week of waiting.
September 27, 2009 Jeremy had a good day today. He was able to get outside again, which he really loves. He said you almost forget that you are in the hospital when you go outside and into the park. His Dad shaved him, which he said was really nice. He went on Skype with Mom and Dan today; they were all happy to see each other. He spent a lot of time in his chair today. Jeremy was also visited by Ben today.
September 26, 2009 Jeremy's Dad came to visit him today. They were able to go outside for about an hour and half. He said it was really nice to get some fresh air. Jeremy also was visited by Ben and Joe today! He sounded good today, but was a little tired. This evening he got to Skype with Laurie. I am sure they were really happy to see each other. Laurie will be coming to Denver on Friday! Thank you so much to everyone for your emails. Jeremy really looks forward to reading emails and your words of encouragement mean so much.
September 25, 2009 Today Jeremy had another busy day. He watched one of a series of videos about his spinal cord injury and then was tested on it. He passed with flying colors. I think there are about 10 more videos to go. He had some therapy today. Ben came to visit tonight. He Skyped with his mom. I just got off Skype with him, Adele and Ben. He was sitting up in the wheelchair wearing a Shaw Racing t-shirt! He said he is a little short on shirts because he needs 2XL to fit over his neck brace and they are easier for him to get on and off. This is the first request I have heard from him... so I am sending up a flare~ 2XL shirts needed!
September 24, 2009 Jeremy met with his neurosurgeon today and he will need another surgery on his neck. He has still been in a lot of excruciating pain and this surgery should help to eliminate the pain. The surgery will be done next week. Adele and Jeremy had a busy day; they said they got lots of little things done. Jeremy had a visit from Billy today. Jeremy calls him Black Bill, he calls himself Wild Bill... I think we should call him Uncle Bill. They had a great time together.
September 23, 2009 Jeremy had another busy day, he was out meeting some of his doctors and watched some videos about spinal cord injuries with Adele. He is still having some shoulder pain. He hopes it is just his muscle and that it will feel better soon. We are still waiting to hear from the neurosurgeons. He also had a visitor named Kalyn Diamond, a relative that he has never met who lives about 6 miles away from Craig Hospital. Jeremy says he's a really great and kind guy. Jeremy also told me that Monday nights are pet night at the rehab and that they bring in a bunch of Newfoundland Dogs! Once Jeremy is able to sit in a wheelchair for 8 hours; he will be able to go on field trips. They go to Bronco's games, fishing trips and they have a lot of other fun activities. Jeremy sounded good tonight, but tired.
September 22, 2009 Sounds like Jeremy had a busy and productive day! He fed himself lunch again today and was out wheeling around. He met with his OT and the speech therapist (they are going to try to get rid of that North Dakotan accent for him... j/k..) He took a tour of the hospital and they were amazed at what an easy time he had with the electric wheelchair; he didn't run into anything (which is unusual). Not surprising to those of us who know that Jeremy can operate anything! Aunt Adele had to get him some new shoes, because his feet are swollen. The shoes she got Jeremy allow for swelling and are easier to get on. Billy came to visit Jeremy for a couple of hours last night.
September 21, 2009 Jeremy still has the blood clot in his leg and is still in a lot of pain from his shoulder. They are going to try and put him in a chair today around 4:00 pm. Jeremy had a full house of visitors over the weekend, which made him happy. His aunt Adele arrived on Sunday and she is planning to stay with Jeremy as long as it takes! He was also visited by Ben and Billy. Next weekend his Dad will be visiting him. Thank you to everyone who has emailed Jeremy! He really appreciates hearing from everyone and seeing what you are up to. We check his emails a few times a day and read them to him.
5:24 PM (Mountain Time) I just spoke to Jeremy and he sounded really great. He was able to get into the wheelchair and said he had been out wheeling around. He said his shoulder was finally starting to feel better. He was also able to eat a little bit on his own. He was really happy! ....more good news... Jeremy was able to brush his teeth tonight! Looks like aunt Adele is going to be an excellent coach!
September 20, 2009 Jeremy is on blood thinner for the blood clot and they will be running a test tomorrow to make sure it goes away. Jeremy has been stuck in bed this weekend, because of his shoulder pain. Monday they will evaulate his x-rays to see if he will need to have the surgery redone.
September 19, 2009 Jeremy has been having a lot of shoulder pain so they are checking with the neurosurgeons to make sure that his neck is fused properly. He was in good spirits today. His sister, brother in-law and niece came to visit! The staff here are taking really good care of him here. He really likes everyone here; his favorite nurse is Ruth.
September 18, 2009 They are running a bunch of tests on Jeremy today and checking him out. He has a blood clot in his calf, so they put him on some blood thinner and he has to stay in bed for the next 24 hours.
September 17, 2009 THE EAGLE HAS LANDED!! The flight from Grand Forks to Denver was a little less than two hours. Mom said it was very smooth and they took very good care of him. September 13, 2009 This morning Don and Brenda Shaw and Brad Seng came to visit Jeremy. They collected contributions for Jeremy in the pits at the John Seitz Memorial Race last night. An almost speechless Jeremy said in a quivering voice "ahh, thanks a lot you guys." Thank you so much to all of the drivers, pit crews and fans. You not only touched Jeremy's heart but also his entire family. That was just such a kind gesture and it was very, very much appreciated and something that he will never forget.
September 12, 2009 Jeremy had another busy day in rehab; he still doesn't have use of his hands but we are hoping that he will be able to regain some hand movement. Patty Burton gave him a hair cut today!
September 11, 2009 Jeremy said he had a very busy day today with rehab. He said that his dad helped him a lot and he said it was really nice to have him there. Jack from "The Bun" brought him a pizza! His hearing improved today and he was feeling better and in good spirits.
September 10, 2009 Aunt Carol stayed the night with Jeremy because she wanted to be there in case he had another rough night. Last night was much better and Jeremy was able to get some much needed sleep. He can't hear out of his right ear, but we are hoping that will come back. He was in a very good "Jeremy mood" today and he was teasing everyone as usual. He worked hard on his physical therapy today. I read him all his messages from his guest book, which he really really liked. Some of them he had me read twice. Overall he had a much much better day today.
September 9, 2009 Aunt Carol stayed the night with Jeremy, because he was moved to a new room. He had a restless night and a hard time getting comfortable and out of pain. He also had a 103 fever and they put in an IV just in case he has an infection.
September 8, 2009 Today Jeremy was moved over to rehab and has been sleeping a lot and in a lot of pain. We hope that tomorrow he is feeling better than today.
September 7, 2009 Jeremy was working really hard today trying to get things moving; he says he doesn't want to fall behind on his work. He spent the day with Dan and had many visitors; he was very exhausted this evening. Tomorrow he will be moving to rehab in the hospital.
September 6, 2009 Jeremy is feeling a little better today. Staying positive and hoping to feel a little better tomorrow. He is working to try and make his arms work better and really hopes to find a way to operate his cell phone.
September 5, 2009 Jeremy was taken of oxygen and slept most of the day, it was discovered that his oxygen levels were very low and he needed to be put back on the oxygen. He was still having a lot of pain in his neck where the surgery was done.
September 4, 2009 Today we learned that Jeremy also has 3 broken ribs. He was in a lot more pain today. This evening he had a fever of 102.
